During the 1800's, the main purpose of the 14th Amendment was to ensure that the Civil Rights Act passed in 1866 was followed and the 13th Amendment. Soon after, Jim Crow Laws made it legal for segregation in the southern states. As time went on Supreme court was brought a case called the trial of Brown v. Board of Education, bringing an end to governmental segregation declaring it was unconstitutional. Another important part of this amendment said that states were required to follow the Bill of Rights, meaning that these powers were expected to follow the rule of equal protection. This amendment improved the freedom of slaves by giving them the right of the normal citizen. This gives rights to freedom in choice of work, freedom to spend money, and to live how and where they please. One of the most life changing was the freedom to love. This is new to the slaves because slaves do not marry and i f they do, they are separated. The significance of the 14th Amendment defined in the United States Constitution is one of the main reasons that America is the best nation on earth(LaMance, Ken).
